Spam comments

Got these 2 comments on different blogs. Both coming from the same IP but with different name and email address. Look like spam comments to me. So I spammed them.

How to block WordPress spam comments? Do install Akismet plugin on your blog. It will help filter a lot of spam comments. One or two spam comments might slip through from time to time. But Akismet plugin does block most of them. You can help Akismet too by identify spam comments by spam it.

Google Custom Search

I took half day to change the blog theme. Created Google Custom Search for JayceOoi.com and spBlogger.com. Integrated it to WordPress then. How to create Facebook Pages?

1. Visit Facebook Pages creation page- here.
2. Click on ‘Create a Page’.
3. Select one of them – Local business, Brand, product, or organization and Artist, band, or public figure.
4. Enter your page name.
5. Check ‘I’m the official representative of this person, business, band or product and have permission to create this Page’.
6. Finally, click on ‘Create Official Page’.

Yup, you have created your own Facebook Page. You need to upload a picture and put some information about your page. And you are done. Let’s go to the next step…

How to create Facebook Like Box?

1. Visit Like Box creation page – here.
2. Put in your Facebook Page ID there.
3. Select the box width that matches your blog layout.
4. Enter how many connections to show with Facebook Like Box.
5. Decide whether to show Stream and Header or not.
6. Finally, click on ‘Get Code’.

You can select either iframe or XFBML code. Paste it at your blog theme sidebar or anywhere you want. I selected iframe for the moment as I don’t know much about JavaScript SDK. And I also edit height in the code. Well, you are ready to do. And wish you luck on getting more visitors.

What do you see? Can you find ‘UniFi Suck’? Well, I cannot. I can see i’m saimatkong… UniFi and Lowyat.NET : Malaysia’s Tech Enthusiast Resource Community in the first 2 results. Let’s take them as example since their SEO are good. Can be ranked 1 and 2. But does not have the perfect title.

Luckily, ‘i’m saimatkong’ blog name is short. Therefore, you still can see the whole blog post title. However, the case is not for Lowyat.NET, only ‘TM…’. Therefore, a good title arrangement is a must to attract more search engine visitors. You can have it this way…

Make sure that those searchers can see what they want to search easily. Then you will have more incoming traffic from search engine. Is your blog post title in the correct way?

What is a dedicated IP?
You will get 1 unique IP number for your web hosting account – your primary domain. For my case, 70.40.213.222 is the dedicated IP that I own. When you type 70.40.213.222 into your web browsers address bar, it will route you to the main domain which is JayceOoi.com.

What is a shared IP?
Most of the websites have shared IP addresses. Depend on web hosting provider, 200 to 300 websites sharing the same 1 IP in shared web hosting package is normal. Some have less than 100 websites sharing 1 IP.

Who need a dedicated IP? What benefit does dedicated IP bring?

• Having your own Private SSL Certificate.
• Anonymous FTP.
• Access your website with IP even when the domain name is inaccessible.

Okay, there is lot of myths about dedicated IP on SEO. Some said it did improve Google PageRank and search engine ranking while some denied. I saw some blogs which rank higher in Google does have dedicated IP when I purchased it last year. It is just USD 2.50 per month for dedicated IP. Can’t you earn that back with your blogs? I asked myself. After using dedicated IP for more than 6 months, does my blog traffic increased? YES. But I did lot of other SEO optimizations too. So does dedicated IP really help? I don’t know…

Okay, not every visitor will come to your website directly. For example, a visitor translated your website using Google Translate. Google AdSense does not detect your website address but Google Translate address. Therefore, the earning is not counted there. Besides Google AdSense, Nuffnang also use that method to display its ads. But we can’t do anything here.

In SEO world, everyone is fighting to be the highest ranking on a good keyword. I tried lot of efforts to fight a particular very hot keywords (let’s said it as A) by commenting on lot of dofollow blogs with CommentLuv. I also write another post with cold keywords (let’s said it as B) but without any marketing. Based on 1 week Google Analytics traffic, A got 1000 visits and B received 800 visits. I really did lot of works on A but nothing on B. In return, I rather write more articles like B. Normally, I don’t active much in commenting on other blogs. I focus on writing more.

Based on the experiment, the result tells me… Write more valuable articles to get more traffic. The articles must be hot and latest topics. And thanks to Google Analytics Asynchronous Tracking too. It tracks even more accurate. Hitting 5k visitors per day by March 2010 is not a mission impossible.

Yes. I always wanted to keep track of my blogs’ traffic totally and without slowing the blog. Therefore, I put Google Analytics code before </body> tag. This will not slow down the website loading but will fail to capture some of the visits due to certain pages did not finish loading until footer and visitors left already. However, with the new asynchronous tracking, thing become totally different. I can keep track all of the visitors and also keep my website loading speed at optimize level.

Testing had been done for few days. I did notice the increase of page view track by Google Analytics. Yeah… I have certain very long pages that can’t track by it. Now it can be tracked with new code. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and install the new Google Analytics Asynchronous Tracking code. Let me know the outcome then.

Never be afraid to try something new on your blog layout. We learn from mistakes and improve there.

As a SEO blogger… What will you do when you see a post that has lot of page view? For me? I will research on the post title keywords popularity. And start my own post on it. Will you do the same too?

By the way, WP-PostViews has the ability to show the most view posts of all time. I stopped using it because of this.

Leaving the same comment in short period and in the same article is not a good method. Automated comment link building will lead your website to Akismet spam folder. You may get few first comments approved. However, when more and more people started to mark your comment as spam. In the end, all your comments will in spam folder all the time. Does it worth the price?

Personally, I won’t purchase this kind of service. And Google does not like it too. I believe most of us don’t like our blog being spammed by these useless comments, right?

NoDoFollow in action

There are 2 colour of links when you enable NoDoFollow Firefox add-on. Purple colour links are dofollow while pink colour links are nofollow. So I cut short lot of work with this little simple add-on. I am on this colour mode for few days. And will be in the coming days too. Did you have this NoDoFollow installed at your Firefox? JayceOoi.com traffic sources on November 2009

JayceOoi.com is the first blog (I called it website for last 2 years as I did not want to admit that it is a blog) that I have. And then PrettyGirl2u.com and spBlogger.com. All of them have traffic from search engines for free. I am not going to discuss on every single step here, just high level as most of us know to do so already.

Things that I do to get traffic to my website for free…

1. Make my website a search engine optimized (SEO) website.
2. Comment at others’ blog.
3. Active at famous forums.
4. Don’t stop learning new stuff

Search engines love SEO websites. You will get lot of traffic there. All you need to do ~ get lot of incoming links as you can. Personally, I don’t blog purposely for search engine. There are some who do so in order to make money online. And it is proven that it work. I would like to have more direct traffic. Why? This mean that your blog is informative and people are willing to visit again. And indirectly, it will bring more incoming links too. Finally, I always keep this in mind.

Write good content, do proper marketing == money money traffic traffic come.

How to avoid Google AdSense click fraud? I also don’t know. But I took below steps to avoid it.

• Remove the ad code.
• Set my own domains on Allowed Sites only.

Why remove the ad code? That guy clicked on Large Rectangle – top channel ad on JayceOoi.com root level. Based on Google Analytics, that ad only brings less than USD 3 in 1 month. Removed it is a good decision. No use to put it there as it wastes space.

Set own domains on Allowed Sites also will help to reduce your Google AdSense code being used by others to do evil thing ~ click fraud sabotage. All the other domains that using your ad code will be ignore by Google. Therefore, all the worry will be gone.

HostMonster CPU Limiting Factors (Throttling)

Some said that HostMonster CPU Limiting Factors (Throttling) data is not accurate. I tried WP Super Cache for 1 day. It does reduce CPU usage a little bit but not much. Why? My blogs don’t have many hits from SU and Digg. So far, I only got around 80 cache pages. Let’s monitor when I get more traffic hits.

1. How do you know the Innity ads whether it’s CPM or CPC running on your blog?
Nope. Innity report does not show the type of ads that running on your blog. Innity team will send you email when there is a campaign running on your blog. It maybe CPC, CPM, Site Take Over and others.

2. I found that when I put Nuffnang ads as backup ads in ADSDAQ, the preview is getting some error. The error message say make sure your blog ads is putting correctly. Or because I don’t get any Nuffnang ads while preview.
Make sure you put the correct Nuffnang ad code. For your info, Nuffnang ads only work on the domain that you register with Nuffnang. Therefore, it is okay to see “Error matching blog to blogger entry. If you are the owner of this blog, please check that there is no typo in your blog address and that you have pasted the code from the Add Ads page correctly.” error like below.

3. ADSDAQ, I put the AskPrice for 728X90 = $1.50, and 300X250 = $1.50. Is it too high or too low?
There is no right and wrong on how much AskPrice to set. Personally, $1.50 is the minimum that I set. Some ads are $3.00 and $5.00 for the best Google AdSense spot ~ Large rectangle (Just below article title). ADSDAQ earning depends on US traffic. More US traffic == more revenue.

How much loading time is your website?

Okay, what is Gears? Gears is an open source browser extension that lets developers create web applications that can run offline. Gears provides three key features like…

• A local server, to cache and serve application resources (HTML, JavaScript, images, etc.) without needing to contact a server
• A database, to store and access data from within the browser
• A worker thread pool, to make web applications more responsive by performing expensive operations in the background

Your blogging time will be shortening with this Google Gears enabled. It will cut short the loading time, but you still need time to think what to write and type. Try it and believe it.

Example of replyMail

There is lot of WordPress comment reply plugin like WordPress Thread Comment, Comment Reply Notification, replyMail… The one that I am using is replyMail. It is a really nice plugin. But still can be improved. I will change the output to a better one as some of the email client like Yahoo Mail does not work well with it.

Google Webmaster Tools custom crawl rate will last for 90 days only. And you need to reconfigure it again then. For my case, I will need to update it on 19 January 2010. I missed around 2 weeks as the custom crawl rate expired on early this month.

What will faster crawl rate does? More pages will be indexed in Google search database. So do you want to increase Google Webmaster Tools crawl rate?

Display related posts are a must. It will keep visitors a longer time at your website. If visitors can’t find anything interesting them anymore, they will leave. So we need to optimise the UI layout to meet the need of visitors.

WordPress related post plugin can display random posts or most commented posts if no related post is found. And it can display related posts with thumbnail too. And other nice features…
