Yeah… Today must be my lucky day. I received a free RM100 Google AdWords coupon from Google Analytics. I have been a Google Analytics user for years but I have not use Google AdWords before. I do not know what should I publish for Jayce Ooi’s Paradise and SP Blogger. However, I do have interest to try it for Pretty Girl 2u.

Google AdWords

Why should you advertise on Google AdWords?

Reach a massive worldwide audience: Google’s advertising network reaches more than 73%* of Internet users in Asia Pacific

Only pay for results: Your ads appear for free, and you only pay when interested users click on your ads and go to your website

Control your advertising costs: There’s no minimum spending requirement, and you can change your daily budget at any time

Adapt your advertising to changing business needs: Change ads for new products and promotions, and start or stop your campaigns anytime

Above statements were taken from the email. Hmm… It is good if we can attract more people to come to your website especially a new website. So will I try it? Sure, why not?

By the way, people don’t like to read fine print. Here is the fine print of the email…

Terms and Conditions
Promotional credit must be applied to a new AdWords account within 15 days of creating the AdWords account and is valid only for new Google AdWords customers with self-managed signup accounts. Advertisers will be charged for advertising that exceeds the promotional credit. Advertisers will need to suspend their ads if they do not wish to receive additional charges beyond the free credit amount. Subject to ad approval, valid registration and acceptance of the Google AdWords Program standard terms and conditions. The promotional credit is non-transferable and may not be sold or bartered. Offer may be revoked at any time for any reason by Google Inc. One promotional credit per customer. Advertisers with self-managed signup accounts are subject to a RM20 activation fee. Offer void where prohibited by law. Offer expires July 17, 2009. Please note: After the promotional credit has been exhausted, your campaigns will continue to accrue clicks for which the costs will be charged to your credit card. If you don’t want to be charged for additional clicks, you can pause your campaigns at any time.

Remember to pause your ad campaign if you don’t want to be charged when over RM100 limit. It’s time to give Google money back after getting so much from Google AdSense.

Keywords… Keywords will bring a lot of income if you have very good keywords on your website. What is the best part of keywords? It just normal keywords anyway, right? No No No… Keywords are very important. Therefore, I will show you how to keep track your website keywords here. And tell you the important of keywords in the near future.

Top keywords at Make Money website

Why are the keywords shown at my Google Analytics? These keywords are the words that people searched at search engines and clicked into your website. Therefore, Google Analytics will show them. The more keywords show in your Google Analytics mean more traffic from search engines to your website.

Detail keywords information

Not every pages of your website that consist of particular keywords will show at search engine. Some of them might show at the 1st page while some might show in 100th page. It is the knowledge of SEO. But that’s another story…

Keep track of your traffic sources is another task that you must do. This will help you to get more information of your visitor. Google Analytics traffic sources overview consists of 3 major parts – Referring Sites, Direct Traffic and Search Engines. With this information, you can get the high level places of your visitors coming from.

Traffic sources overview

Referring Sites – other websites refer those visitors to your website.
Direct Traffic – those visitors come to your website directly.
Search Engines – the visitors come from search engines.

By looking on the high level information will not be enough. Go deep into the details when you have time. You can know which website that visitors come from. From which search engine or direct visit. Just look at below traffic details. You can find out that direct traffic is the top contributor. Following by Google search engine. Then entrecard.com website.

Details traffic information

I did not do a lot of marketing on this Make Money website. I only joined Entrecard.com for the moment. And I seldom leave comment with Make Money website too. Therefore, most of the traffic comes from Google search engine and Entrecard.com website.

Do keep track of your visitor whenever you do website marketing. By doing so, you will know which marketing method is the best for your website. Keep tracking…

In order to use Google Analytics, you need to register an account first. Then create a website profile for it. Finally, you need to insert the tracking code into your website. There are 2 tracking codes currently – Legacy Tracking Code (urchin.js) and New Tracking Code (ga.js). Be sure to use the New Tracking Code (ga.js) because it can gain access to a wide range of exciting new features as they become available.

So where should I put it? You should put it into every webpage you want to track immediately before the </body> tag. Most of the websites use a footer template to display the bottom website layout. Just copy and paste the tracking code there.

Example, put the code right before </body>

<script type=“text/javascript”>
var gaJsHost = ((“https:” == document.location.protocol) ? “https://ssl.” : “http://www.”);
var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker(“UA-xxxxxxx-x”);
pageTracker._initData();
pageTracker._trackPageview();
