How to enable threaded comments in WordPress 2.7 or 2.8? For those using latest WordPress theme won’t be a big problem as the theme should be able to support the features of WordPress version 2.7 and above like threaded comments. All you need to set it at Discussion on WordPress Settings. However, I started to blog since WordPress 1.x and the theme that I am using does not support it. Therefore, I need to modify it to enable it. Planned to do so since last year but only got the chance to make it right now. Yeah… I really love the threaded comments function. It makes the discussion better.

Is your WordPress theme support threaded comments? If no, are you going to modify it to enable it?

Yes. I discovered the first issue after upgraded to WordPress 2.8. The WP-PostRatings developed by Lester ‘GaMerZ’ Chan cannot work. It failed to rate. What is going on here? After searching around, I discovered that the new WP-PostRatings 1.50 will generate some JavaScript codes at the footer. It requires <?php wp_footer(); ?> code in your theme footer template.

My current theme does not have <?php wp_footer(); ?> code at footer. So WP-PostRatings fail to rate. So if you are facing the same problem as I do, just double check that your footer template has <?php wp_footer(); ?> and header template has <?php wp_head(); ?>.

Have you heard about Gravatar before? I knew this for quite some time. But I am too lazy to upload my photo there. Hehe… Finally, I put my photo at Gravatar in the end. Don’t tell others… I just uploaded it after blogging for 2 years.

Above is the photo that you will see when you left a comment on Gravatar enabled blog. Currently, I did not enable Gravatar on my theme that I am using right now due to slow Streamyx Internet connection. Will turn in on when connection is back to normal. When will be? Don’t ask me. Ask TM Net Streamyx. Haha…

So what is the benefit? Other will know that it is you that comment. And make sure that you use an attractive photo to catch others’ eyes.

SP Blogger is on WordPress 2.7.1 now. Upgrading to WordPress 2.7.1 from version 2.6 is very easy. By just removing all the WordPress old files, then upload the latest WordPress 2.7.1 files there. And do some changes on wp-config.php to match your DB user and password. Finally, run the upgrade page. Well, that’s all. Pretty easy and no pain faced at all.

The first thing changed in WordPress 2.7.1 that you notice is the layout. I love the new layout. It works perfectly on wide LCD monitor compare to previous 2.6 version.

The next thing that I usually when upgrade WordPress engine is to check the compatibility of the plugins that I use. Luckily, all of the plugins does not have issue with WordPress 2.7.1. The custom theme that I am using is okay too.

I am running out of idea to write at spBlogger.com. Or should I say that I am too lazy to write for spBlogger.com? I started to have theme topic for JayceOoi.com. I posted Genting Highlands ~ Chinese New Year Trip and writing guide to setup a new PC system with Free Intel Core2 Extreme quad-core processor QX9650 right now. But I don’t know what I should write on this blog.

Any idea?
